CONCEPTUAL CAMPUS PLANNING STUDY
Named "Reclaiming Inspiring Spaces," this study examined spaces in the internationally famous Emma Willard School campus, which is known to be one of the most picturesque campuses in the United States. The study worked with Emma Willard community to envision innovative, future-looking uses for spaces that, while awe-inspiring, have gone out of use with the influx of contemporary learning models.
By creating compelling fundraising materials the study created a road map for fundraising and development of spectacular interior spaces with Alumni Chapel and Slocum Hall.
MASTER PLAN of CAMP BURGESS AND HAYWARD
SANDWICH (CAPE COD), MA
HMA created the Master Plan for Camps Burgess and Hayward, which constitutes Cape Cod's largest contiguous parcel of privately owned land on Cape Cod.
The Master Plan creates 5, 10 and 25 year phases of development and land use strategies for Camp Burgess, a camp for boys that surrounds Spectacle and Triangle Ponds, and Camp Hayward, a Camp for girls that occupies a pristine peninsula within Spectacle Pond. The project followed guidelines set out by
Focusing on sustainability and innovative programming, the Master Plan envisions new Conference spaces, Farm Education and Makers spaces, as well as new dining facilities, new educational spaces, improved residential clusters that are meant to enhance the unspoiled nature of the site and deep traditions of the Camps while seeking avenues for increased revenue.
CAMPUS MASTER PLAN SOUTH SHORE NATURAL SCIENCE CENTER
NORWELL,MA
HMA worked with the SSNSC's parent organization, The South Shore YMCA, to create a campus master plan that charts a strategy for land use for this icon property and its outlying land holdings. A strategy for land use revealed a strategy for real estate consolidation that will allow the SSYMCA to continue innovative development of the facility, whose goal is to bring natural education to the South Shore .
With an emphasis on sustainability and low impact, the plan proposes a rehabilitation of the central building , new trail heads, consolidated farm education program, and new exhibition areas. The first phase of the Master Plan will include a new Center for Conservation Studies, which will create rental and event leasing opportunity on this pristine and iconic Campus.
WEIR RIVER FARM UPPER CAMPUS MASTER PLAN
TRUSTEES OF THE RESERVATION, HINGHAM, MA
HMA worked with the Trustees of the Reservation to envision the transformation of the upper plateau of Historic Weir River Farm by planning the adaptive re-use of the iconic Polly Starr house and barn on Turkey Hill into a multi-use complex that serves the farm's long-term strategic plan.
New program includes an event facility for the Weir River Farm School and Camp, farm-to-table dinner events, CSA distribution , retail space, and a library cafe situated in the historic library of the Starr Barn. Low impact overflow parking area and an enhanced entry sequence to Turkey Hill was also included in the plan.
FINE ARTS BUILDING CONCEPTUAL DESIGN
This study worked with the Fine Arts Department to brainstorm preliminary strategies for using an existing Edward Larabee Barnes building to adapt the spaces to contemporary teaching models in music and the fine arts.
